Caribbean Member States have been updated on the latest developments at IMO during the Regional Meeting of Directors and Heads of Maritime Administrations (DIHMAR 3) in Rockley, Christ Church, Barbados (2-3 May 2024).   

Directors and Heads of maritime administrations were informed on information resources for latest regulatory and other developments at IMO, including projects; RAC/REMPEITC-Caribe; the MTCC Caribbean; and the Office of the Regional Coordinator, Caribbean. 

The event promoted information exchange between Caribbean administrations on national flag, port and coastal State activities to increase effective implementation of international instruments and regional codes, and increased awareness of opportunities for technical cooperation and mutual assistance in beneficiary countries. 

Updates were given on the latest work of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat; the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU); the Caribbean Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control (CMoU); the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States; the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Cartagena Convention Secretariat, The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and the Women in Maritime Association Caribbean. 

A variety of topics affecting maritime transport in the Caribbean Sea, from safety, legal, marine technology, to the marine environment, education and navigation were discussed.  

The meeting was organised by IMO and the Barbados Ministry of Tourism and International Transport (MIT) and attended by 77 attendees, including 23 Member States/Territories and  organizations including the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO); International Maritime Satellite Organization (IMSO); the Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre Caribbean (MTCC CARIBBEAN)/University Of Trinidad And Tobago; Global Support and Development (GSD); and the World Maritime University (WMU).
